About the Journal

Historical Life Course Studies is a no-fee double-blind, peer-reviewed open-access journal in historical population studies. It was launched in 2013 and is published by the International Institute of Social History (IISH).

The only criterion for publishing in Historical Life Course Studies is academic quality, which is evaluated based on double-blind peer-review by leading specialists in the field. The journal is open to scholars from all corners of the world and publishes theoretical, empirical and methodological papers, which deal with the latest issues in the fields of demography, family studies, sociology, anthropology and geography, from a historical perspective. There are no boundaries in time or space. Priority is given to longitudinal studies on the basis of micro-level data on historical populations, but cross-sectional studies are also published. We welcome also database descriptions and papers on transcription of data, database documentation, as well as extraction programs, algorithms and other technical contributions with respect to the methodology of large historical databases. Data and syntax can be published in the form of Open Data on the website.

Paul Puschmann (Radboud University) and Joana Maria Pujadas-Mora (Open University of Catalonia & Autonomous University of Barcelona) are the co-editors-in-chief. The journal is hosted by the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
